Collections of objects

The collections of the Varkaus Museum mainly include artifacts related to the industry of Varkaus and the history of the town and city of Varkaus. The museum's collection of artifacts began in 1956, when the Varkaus Homeland and Art Museum, also known as the Savo Museum, was founded. The collection of the Varkaus Museum consists mainly of two entities. The fine entity of industrial artifacts is the collection of the A. Ahlström Factory Museum, which was attached to the Varkaus City Museum in the late 1980s. The everyday artifacts deposited in the Savo Museum, in turn, depict the everyday life, clothing, livelihoods, food preparation and movement of the people of Varkaus. The collections contain over 23,000 objects.
