Career counselling support for immigrants

The Immigrant Career Counsellor provides guidance on preparing job application documents and organises workshops on how to prepare documents. She acts as a link between employers and jobseekers with an immigrant background, assisting employers with job interviews and, if necessary, with induction.

The services of a career counsellor are available to residents and clients of the reception centre. The service is free of charge and can be booked by appointment.

Contact for integration services

According to Section 9 of the Integration Act, if an authority has identified a person in the course of its duties who is assessed to be in need of integration services under the Integration Act and whose first residence permit or residence card has been issued or right of residence has been registered within three years, the authority must refer the person to these services. If the person gives his/her consent, the authority must contact the authority responsible for integration services in the municipality to assess the need for the service.

In Varkaus, the Central Savo Employment Region is the authority responsible for employment and integration. The team is made up of integration experts from the Central Savo Employment Area, who are responsible for all integration and employment-related services for integration clients, guidance and counselling for immigrants, and the promotion and coordination of integration and multidisciplinary cooperation at local level. Once contacted, the integration experts will contact the person and assess their needs for services.
