Education and training
Varkaus has five municipal day-care centres with groups for children under 3, 3-5, 1-5 and pre-school age, as well as small groups for children with special needs.
There are six comprehensive schools, one of which also has a secondary school. In addition to Finnish-language education, Varkaus also offers English-medium education in grades 0-6. Music is available from the third grade onwards.
The Varkaus campus area offers opportunities for different study paths, from upper secondary school to vocational education and university of applied sciences.
The Varkaus area is home to the civic college Soisalo-Opisto. Courses are open to all. Courses are available in languages, home economics, crafts, music, physical education, nature, art, dance and IT.
