Taipale Canal Museum
The Taipale Canal Museum is located in Varkaus, in the Taipale Canal area. The Taipale Canal, located in the Vuoksi waterway, on the route of the Northern Savo route, is a functioning deep-water canal, and the museum canal, completed in 1840, is also located in the area.
The canal museum's main exhibition, Via Canalia, tells the history of canal construction and water traffic in North Savo. The museum visit also includes a tour of the Taipale canal area, the museum canal and the existing deep water canal. The history of the canal is presented both in the canal museum and on the information boards of the canal trail that runs around the area. The Taipalee guest harbour is located above the canal.
