City Council

The City Executive Board is responsible for the management and development of the city in accordance with the objectives set by the City Council, the strategies and plans approved by it, and the decisions it has taken.

City Council

The City Council has 35 councillors. The council elects a chairperson and first and second vice-chairpersons for its term of office. The duties of the City Council are laid down in the Local Government Act and in specific legislation.

Committees

Committees are elected bodies that oversee the provision of public services within the municipality. The members and deputy members of the committees are elected by the council at the start of its term of office. The city executive committee appoints its own representative to each committee. The representative has the right to speak at meetings but does not have the right to vote.
